We took a day tour of the main highlights in/around Luxor: Luxor Temple; Karnak Temple; Valley of Kings (3 tombs); Temple of Hatshepsut; and Collosi of Memnon. Our guide was very good and explained the history very nicely.

Additional but reasonable cost, we also visisted 3 other temples on the way to Aswan: Edfu; KomOmbu and Phillae.
